Volunteering

Volunteering at Mansfield Woodhouse Heritage Link

Do you ….

  • have time to spare?
  • like meeting people?
  • want to help the local community?
  • want to learn new skills?
  • want better job prospects and to gain work experience?
  • want to preserve local history?

Here in the archives at Mansfield Woodhouse Heritage Link we house historic photographs and documents associated with Mansfield Woodhouse dating back to the 1800s.

We are developing our archives further to preserve and protect this local heritage and make it more accessible to the public.

If you have time to spare why not volunteer to help in this friendly fun environment and learn new skills?

Volunteering Roles

Accessioning & Cataloguing       You can learn how to accession and catalogue items in our collection to national standards.  It can be anything from an old photo, a painting, a scrap book, or an old hand written letter. All items in our collection are related to people and places in Mansfield Woodhouse. Accessioning and cataloguing an item helps us to know what we have in our collection and where to find it.

Enquiries & Research

We often have visitors to the archives who want to find out more about the people and buildings of Mansfield Woodhouse.  You could help with enquiries by searching on our catalogue and looking for items in our collection.  If you have local knowledge you may want to chat about the area with other volunteers and visitors.

Creating Research and History Files

Many of our volunteers have carried out small projects, researching into the history of local people, local places, the war, trade and industry and more.  We store these projects and other information in our Research and History files for people to enjoy and learn from. Perhaps you would like to research your own project for this section or help to file  and index existing ones.

Exhibitions

Every year we put on a programme of small exhibitions at Heritage Link. You could help out with choosing and preparing material for the exhibition and helping to display it.

Fundraising

Sometimes we hold stalls at local community events, such as the Party in the Park at Yeoman Hill Park, pictured here.  We sell merchandise, raffle and tombola tickets or run children’s games.   Many of our volunteers and supporters make or donate items to sell at these events.  If you are able help out just let us know!

Marketing

Maybe you would like to help out with promoting Heritage Link on social media sites or on our website. Volunteers are also needed to help out with designing posters and flyers for our events using the Heritage Link branding and colours.

Youth Group Organisers and Helpers

We are looking to create a “Young Heritage Link Group” to work on exciting local history projects. If you are interested in volunteering to help run and organise these sessions with local school children please contact us.
